The Nationals’ Member for Mildura, Jade Benham MP has today received good news regarding the long-awaited installation of signage for Irymple Secondary College.
On 29th August 2024, Ms Benham asked Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne, for a specific timeline on this project which Irymple Secondary College School Council had approved in 2021.
“I am pleased to confirm that the Department of Transport and Planning has received $540,000 in construction funding from the Commonwealth Road Safety Program for these essential safety improvements at the intersection of Calder Highway and Karadoc Avenue,” Ms. Benham said.
The upcoming upgrades at this crucial intersection will significantly enhance safety for all road users, incorporating:
- Improved traffic signal phasing to minimize conflicts with turning vehicles
- Refreshed line marking
- Enhanced signage
- Safer pedestrian crossings
- Installation of brighter LED traffic signals for improved visibility
- Modifications to the traffic island
The Department anticipates that construction will commence towards the end of 2024, with an expected completion within 8 weeks of starting, contingent on weather conditions.
“This upgrade is a vital step in ensuring the safety of our community, especially for students and parents accessing Irymple Secondary College,” Ms. Benham added.
“I look forward to seeing these improvements come to fruition.”
Ms Benham also stated that her advocacy work with Minister Horne on the Sixteenth Street and Deakin Avenue intersection continues along with the work of Mildura Rural City Council.
“Minister Horne has been quite positive in recent conversations, noting that this is a much larger job with a much larger investment required.”
